The Red Hill Registry’s logo is inspired by the Kamehameha butterfly, known in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi as the pulelehua, and represents a symbol of transformation and strength. 

Like butterflies in many cultures, the pulelehua is seen as a symbol of renewal and resilience due to its life cycle. The Red Hill Registry logo features double “R” wings with the center white space resembling the “H” of our name and symbolizes the interconnectedness of our communities. Connectedness is rooted in shared values, balance and stewardship of our island’s resources.

The logo is the product of months of dialogue and feedback from our community, specifically those who attended our public focus groups as well as members of the Red Hill Registry Community Advisory Workgroup. 

We asked our community members what images or ideas come to mind when they think of the Red Hill Registry. Dozens of creative themes were shared with our design team. Popular ideas included: renewal, connection, community, water, and progress. Our designers (Kurt Osaki Creative Group in Honolulu) gathered all of those ideas and proposed multiple logos that were finally narrowed to two. We again asked our focus group members and community representatives on our Community Advisory Workgroup for their preference. 

The clear majority selected this butterfly logo.

The butterfly is a reminder that even in uncertainty, renewal is possible. Flowing waves complete the wings, bringing movement to represent progress and forward momentum. Water, a source of life and resilience, nourishes the land and sustains generations.

Representing the mission of the Red Hill Registry, this logo embodies hope, unity, and the commitment to providing vital resources to those in need.

Care was also taken to select the colors of our logo. 

Orange is the color of enthusiasm and emotions such as warmth, joy, optimism and hope. This color reflects the new path forward the Red Hill Registry brings to the Red Hill Community.

Blue, the color of water, evokes trust, loyalty, stability, and comfort. Blue represents the vision of the Red Hill Registry to be a place of trust and reliability for a community in need of resources and deeper understanding of the health effects that may be related to the water crisis.
